The Mess

I’m not sure when it happened, but some time ago, soda companies came up with this neon vitamin-infused water…it’s not quite Crystal Light, and it’s not quite Gatorade, but I guess it was in response to the (definitely) unhealthy energy drinks that have come to be so popular…not being a fan of energy drinks, I have never been inclined to try any vitamin-type water…then again, I was never offered three bottles for the price of none…SoBe, formerly a favorite soft drink company of mine, recently introduced their own version of vitamin water, and the little cafe in the Learning Center just got their first shipment of it on Wednesday…as a promotion, they were giving away bottles of it, so I, along with my fellow Help Desk-ites, went over to try it…

Day 218 - March 19th, 2008

She's gotta be strong to fight them / so she's taking lots of vitamins

First reaction (to the grape one): ick…it tasted like watered-down cough syrup…and that’s being very generous…the other two weren’t any better…I think it’s a bad sign that, on the label, the product is described as a “Vitamin Enhanced Water Beverage“…that’s like how Yoo-Hoo is dubiously labeled “Chocolate Drink“…but, as Kathy says, if it’s free, it’s for me…

I got a message from Joey O. (Y-Rock’s music director) early Thursday morning reminding me that, being the first day of Spring, it was Free Rita’s Day…for those of you not from the area, Rita’s Water Ice is the best place ever…we used to go to a Rita’s every week one summer at camp, and I remember all of the guys in our group had a crush on the girl behind the counter, but that’s another story…when I came home on Thursday afternoon, Mom picked me up to deliver the last few packages of Shalach Manos (not related to “Manos: The Hands Of Fate”) for Purim…if you don’t know what Purim is, it’s just another holiday we celebrate to remember when we weren’t conquered, killed or generally pushed around…good enough reason to eat and make noise, if you ask me…anyway, when we were done, Mom and I went to Rita’s for free goodness…

Day 219 - March 20th, 2008

Lovely Rita's

That night, we went to shul for the Purim service, which has a loud, loud party atmosphere…I saw a bunch of people who I haven’t seen since whenever the last time I was at shul…they were quite happy to see me, even if they didn’t immediately recognize me with the new hair…

Friday was a bit crazy-go-nuts…I was moved back to my old 3-7 time slot, but because of the holiday weekend, most people left their offices around 3 (including XPN)…so instead of talking with people online and via e-mail, I mostly talked to Danger Lauren about Phantom Planet and how it’s funny when I curse…when we were heading for 30th Street station, we saw a pair of shoes posed around 30th and Chestnut…

Day 220 - March 21st, 2008

And some might exchange a glance

…as DL noted, it looked like someone spontaneously combusted while in third position…yeesh…

I got a new external hard drive for my laptop…on Saturday, I moved all of my music from the various places it occupied and consolidated it all onto my new 250 GB drive…it’s such a good feeling to free up all that space, especially since my computer had been acting up a little bit, and I’m sure it was because my drives were getting so close to full…Saturday night, we had some friends over for dinner and entertainment…well, dinner, anyway (the conversation provided most of the entertainment)…we got pizza from local hippies Peace A Pizza…it was a lovely night with a lovely spread…

Day 221 - March 22nd, 2008

This is Cracker soul

Last night’s Folk Show was an interesting time…that night, the guest was to be Howard Levy, jazz harmonica player extraordinaire…he was performing upstairs that night at World Cafe Live, and was going to come down at the end of the show to play for us…I went up around 9:55 to see if he was ready to come down, got him into the studio around 10:15, and got him soundcheck’d and on the air by 10:35…it wasn’t as smooth as I would have liked it, but I think I managed it well…hopefully, there won’t be so much running around in future shows, but I think that everyone appreciated the work I did while everyone else was enjoying the performance…

Day 222 - March 23rd, 2008

They're living in her head but dying in her magazines

That’s Gene Shay (in the red) surrounded by harmonica players, among them being Howard (seated) and Jason Rosenblatt, my former jazz teacher and leader of Shtreiml (second from right)…

This morning was all Radio-like, and I got permission from my teacher to use an advertisement from the 1930s for the basis of my commercial production project…it should be a whimsical time for all!…after class, I went to Einstein Brothers for a bagel and hot chocolate…

Day 223 - March 24th, 2008

Italian candy with swiss chocolaty flavor

mmmmmmm….

Rumor has it that my Intellectual Heritage class tonight has been canceled, but I’ll be going back to school just the same…oh bother…

Looks like some nasty weather
Blew into the neighborhood
Funny it was so blue
I guess it followed you
