Cold Hands/Warm Heart
January 27th 2008 by E..
On the way to class on Wednesday, I spotted some renegade snow that seemed to be holding on to winter…That class happens to be the second level of the Intellectual Heritage course that I began last semester…not only that, but I have the same teacher…when he came into the classroom, he greeted some of the other students that were in my class last semester, and apparently did not see me until he began to hand out the syllabus…
“Eric! You are here!”
“Kristoff! You are here, too!”
“This is truly wonderful”
…it works a lot better with his accent, which is still difficult to pinpoint…I feel like I have an advantage in the class, since some of the other students have not had him and might not know what to expect…considering that I got an A in the last level, I think I should be pretty good this time…oh, and here’s the renegade snow:
Day 163 - January 23rd, 2008
That night in the dorms was Music Appreciation Night, wherein people were encouraged to showcase songs from their iPods to the other residents…though I got there a little late (I was too busy appreciating music in my room), the people that were still there were happy to hear some of the stuff I had to play…the one song that everyone really liked was “Shake A Fist”, the new tune from Hot Chip…I played some other songs for them that didn’t get as universally positive a response, but I’m okay with that…the R.A. also talked to me very briefly about having me perform for the residents as an upcoming event…not sure how that’s going to work out, but maybe I’ll learn “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Pt. 1″ for the occasion…
It’s a bit strange to have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays end so early…over the last 3 semesters, the earliest my classes were over on any given day has been around 4:00 or 4:30…on the two aforementioned days, I’m done by 1:00…because of this, I had lunch at home on Thursday after coming home around 2:00…Mom and Dad had gotten “Extreme” Pringles in some unusual flavors…
Day 164 - January 24th, 2008
The “Blazin’ Buffalo Wing” flavor was pretty good, but the “Screamin’ Dill Pickle” was just wrong…even those words don’t belong in that order…unless there are other words in the area, like “I am” and “because I ate a tainted”…blecch…
My new, earlier shift on Y-Rock is also enjoyable for a number of reasons…first, I get to do a Nooner each week, showcasing an hour of classic alternative tunes, flashbacks, and other assorted obscurities…I also get to come home at a normal time, instead of around 8:00 as I did before…I now have about 3 more hours to lounge about and do nothing!…
We have noticed, over the past few weeks, the Hiway Theatre’s marquee has an unusual declaration of what goes on inside its newly refurbished walls…
Day 165 - January 25th, 2008
…not sure I want to know what kinds of events go on there…
This morning, we (Mom, Dad and my grandparents) went to the Abramson Center for Shabbos services with my great-grandmother…she’s so funny…she practically pushed Dad out of the way so that she could hug me, and she says the funniest and sweetest things…of course, she still tells me how skinny I am, how I should wear a jacket, and how I should go to her if I need any money…after services, they had little danishes and sticky things…G.G. wanted something to drink, so I got her some lemonade (of course she asked if it was vodka)…it’s great to see her as well as to see how happy she is to see me…
Afterwards, Mom, Dad and I went to Montgomery Mall, where I got some shirts at Hot Topic that were on sale…I also had a gift card to Borders, so I got The Rapture’s first album and the (mostly) complete discography of Minor Threat (all of their songs fit on one CD, of course)…we came back home to find that some more tickets that I bought had arrived…Dad has a system where he keeps concert tickets in an envelope with the band name and date written on it…
Day 166 - January 26th, 2008

The tickets that came today were for Beach House and Papercuts at The Barbary, and Hot Chip at the Starlight Ballroom…Vampire Weekend is the next show I’m going to, and Wilco after that…then, I will hopefully be seeing Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks at the TLA in March…I am most definitely doing a good job on my New Year’s resolution to go to more concerts…
Tonight, we took Erin to the restaurant formerly known as Pizzeria Uno…while it was very enjoyable, we were all very tired…that said, it’s best that I get some sleep right about now…
