Dance This Mess Around

I would have to say that I’ve been in a little fit or productivity over the past few days…On Tuesday, I started clearing stuff out of my closet…I found lots of things from my childhood, including old coloring books, puzzles and stories…I even found a stack of childrens records that were my mom’s from when she was little…there’s still a lot to be done, but at least I got to listen to lots of tunes while I was working…

Today I set up a wireless network in the house…it’s still a little buggy, but I’m quite proud of my first attempt at messing with technology…

Friday tons o’ fun…Tegan and Sara’s Free at Noon concert was nothing short of delightful, and Stan Ridgway put on an amazing show that night…I am so happy that I got to meet and/or greet both of them (especially Stan Ridgway, who was just as cool and funny and weird as I expected him to be)…

Saturday, Erin and I went to the Franklin Fountain, which was either like stepping into a shop in River City, or on Main Street in Disneyland (something I’ll be doing really soon)…it’s so old-timey and full of pep, it must be seen to be appreciated…on top of that, I had one of the best egg creams I have ever had, and everything on the menu looked positively splendid…I sure hope to go back there, and often…(side note: they had a sign in the window that said that they were looking for full-time soda jerks…I think I may have found my dream job)…

After we had our wonderful treat, Erin and I went to South Street (and that sort of rhymes)…we went to a few shops and got a few records and other things…it’s lovely in the city this time of year, even though some of the buildings mysteriously spray mist onto the sidewalks…they should seriously have that checked out…

I was told by Helen Leicht that she likes how Mandy$ (Philly Local assistant, Y-Rock DJ) make ourselves so helpful around XPN…it’s nice to be told that, especially with more and more interns working there for shorter and shorter lengths at a time…I think it’s worth saying that if you are working somewhere, no matter for how long of a time, you should try and make an impression on the people you are working for, so that maybe you’ll end up working there longer…then again, it’s a shame that I really have to say that at all…

This Friday’s Free at Noon is really nothing for me to shout about, though you might disagree…It’s a double-header with Joan Wasser (a/k/a Joan As Police Woman) and Crowded House…I know, I know, but I always liked Split Enz better…next week, though, XPN continues in the grand tradition of havng the coolest artists come when I’m away, as Rufus Wainwright and Neko Case take the stage for the Free at Noon…I would whine and complain more than usual, but I’m going to be in Disneyland!!

On that note, I’ll be playing Disney-, California- and Birthday-related songs on Y-Rock tomorrow, so be sure to tune in from 3-7 pm eastern…also, I’ll be on Sunday afternoon from 3-7 before I help out on the Folk Show…

Yesterday, as I was without internet, I made another Experiment In Sound…It’s decidedly more simple, with just two tracks: one of sped-up bass, and one of manipulated white noise…the bassline seemed a bit eastern-sounding before I sped it up, so I’ll call this one

Experiment In Sound 5 (Indian Static)

Check it out, and there’s going to be one with words real soon, I promise…

Until then, I’ll be 20 in 5 days, and in California in also 5 days…

Hooray!
E.

Lyric of the Time:
Proving you’re a hard act to follow
You’re a hard act to follow
You make it difficult to even think of taking in another play
Hard act to follow, you’re a hard act to follow
Keeping me at arms length, sapping my strength from a distance
Lie like Ophelia
Proving you’re a mean scene stealer
Proving you’re a hard act to follow
Hard act to follow
